Buy new MacBook, fixed old one, or build one?

I’m a professional and will be using the Mac for work and some light entertainment like YouTube music movies. Nothing crazy. I’d like to be able to view a ton of PDFs without stuff getting laggy.

I was wondering if I should get my 2015-16 12inch MacBook fixed? According the the apple store the logic board failed and it’ll cost $500 to fix. I’m not sure if that’s worth it bc of the possibility of it failing again after repair. Plus I read many negative reviews about same.

Second option, purchase an older: Apple Desktop Computer (Grade D) Mac mini RRMD389LL/A-D Intel Core i7 2.3 GHz 4 GB 2 TB HDD Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. Upgrade it to maybe 8Gb and the new OS.

Or just pull the trigger on a new a Mac.

Any advice or recommendations?
