Success! High Sierra on X99,i7 5820k, 1080ti

Hello all,

I have installed macOS High Sierra as a dual boot (separate hard drives) on my system using the vanilla guide below.

https://hackintosh.gitbook.io/-r-hackintosh-vanilla-desktop-guide/

Here are my specs/other relevant info:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MOTHERBOARD: MSI X99A Sli Plus

BIOS Version: E7885IMS.1D0

CPU: i7 5820K

GPU: Gigabyte Xtreme 1080ti

HDD: Samsung EVO 840 120GB (I have installed macOS to this drive, windows is on a 960 evo M.2)

RAM: 24GB DDR4 2666 MHZ (using 6/8 slots) (XMP Enabled in BIOS)

KEXTS:

  • AppleALC.kext
  • VirtualSMC.kext
  • IntelMausiEthernet.kext
  • VoodooPS2Controller.kext
  • Lilu.kext
  • WhateverGreen.kext
  • USBInjectAll.kext
  • XHCI-unsupported.kext

In my 'drivers64UEFI' folder:

  • ApfsDriverLoader-64.efi
  • HFSPlus-64.efi
  • AppleImageLoader-64.efi
  • OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000.efi

My boot args are:

  • -v
  • npci=0x2000 (seems to be vital to X99 hacks. I needed it to even get to the installer)
  • dart=0
  • debug=0x100
  • keepsyms=1

SMBIOS:

I used clover to select MacPro6,1 (see final comments). I pasted the board serial back into Rt Variables.

I used uuidgen to make my SmUUID.

Here is my whole EFI folder. Make note that I removed my serial number and related info, not sure if two people using the same one can cause problems. You can generate new ones using clover and uuidgen.

POST INSTALL:

After macOS install, I installed Clover (v4910) to my 840 EVO in the same manner

I used to install it to my flash drive. I mounted the EFI partition with the command

line and copied my EFI from my USB over to my 840 EVO. I then used this script

(https://github.com/Benjamin-Dobell/nvidia-update) to update my nvidia drivers.

FINAL COMMENTS:
The install is stable. I made a post here yesterday about some issues I was having. When I installed macOS I used SMBIOS of iMac14,2. This was not stable with some severe issues occurring after login. I changed the SMBIOS to MacPro6,1, uninstalled/reinstalled web drivers and it has been stable ever since. Nothing more to say about that really.

I do have a couple little things however, which I will list below:

  • Sometimes I get a boot error 'couldnt allocate runtime area'. I think this is common with X99 hacks, so I just CTRL-ALT-DEL to reboot. Sometimes I have to do this more than once, but it boots usually after one reset. Has anyone resolved this issue? I know it is memory mapping related, possibly just something you have to live with on X99 hacks.
  • Drives that are connected to my motherboard via PCIe (either an x4 riser card or a native M.2 slot) show as orange drives. Anyone know a fix for this?

Overall just want to say thanks to the mods and community here, for sure the best resource in the hackintosh community. I mostly posted here because I could not find much info on my specific platform, so I hope this makes someones life a bit easier when they try.
