Hackintosh for School

Hey, I'm new to the concept of hackintoshing.

I was wondering if a hackintosh would be solid and stable enough to run in university. I'm going to be studying most likely computer science/engineering. I want to hackintosh mainly to learn iOS development and have an overall better dev environment but still have application support.

That being said, I probably won't have much time to repair my hackintosh build, if it does decide to fail. How safe are hackintoshes, specifically for a laptop?

I was planning to throw in a secondary drive with Windows on it just in case, but I realized I couldn't disable the drive in the BIOS. Is there a way to disable drives in macOS so it's not on and consuming unnecessary power?
