How many people fixed the USB installation issue by simply switching to USB 2 pen drive?

I'm living in a world of circles with lines through them. Despite trying absolutely everything. Even managed to get past the first stage and get MacOS installed on an NVME drive. Then, for the second round of Clover install process, circles with lines, circles with lines. USB errors.
