Does anyone have experience with setting up dedicated NVIDIA graphics on their laptop? (ThinkPad P72)

TLDR at bottom

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for help with my ThinkPad P72. I have an i7-8750H CPU and an NVIDIA Quadro P600 graphics card. I'm trying (and have tried very hard) to get High Sierra with NVIDIA Web Drivers working, because I won't be able to use external monitors if I choose to go for integrated Intel graphics (mine is Intel UHD 630), so I'd rather not go down that route.

I have done lots of Googling. And I mean a lot. I've tried everything from checking my NVRAM (yes I have it) to disabling Graphics/Inject/NVidia in config.plist (done that too) to trying different versions of High Sierra (tried with 10.13.0, 10.13.4 and also 10.13.6), to... well, a whole bunch of stuff.

However, whenever I try to boot in discrete graphics mode with NVIDIA Web Drivers (nvda_drv=1 and web drivers installed) my boot gets stuck at this point:

I assume that this means that my graphics card isn't working, because gIOScreenLockState is usually the last thing to appear before the UI is loaded.

I'm willing to share more information about my configuration for anyone else in a similar situation, and I can provide config.plist and other files (I'm using Clover in a vanilla install) as necessary if anyone can help me debug this.

tl;dr; my ThinkPad P72 isn't working, I want to get it working with discrete graphics on High Sierra. Has anyone else had success with discrete NVIDIA graphics on a laptop? I can't find a single good guide on the internet about this - all of them are about disabling the dedicated graphics. Thanks!
