Sanity Check on first Hackintosh attempt

Having given up on Apple producing a new iMac and unwilling shell out for 18 month old tech, I am about to pull the trigger on a first Hacintosh attempt. In order to minimize downside, I am planning with a prebuilt - HP Z220

Short specs:

Processor: Intel Core i5-3470 3.20GHz

Memory: 8GB DDR3 (32GB Max Memory)

Memory Slots: 4

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 2500

Video Ports: DVI, DisplayPort

Hard Drive: 2TB SATA (5400rpm)

Optical Drive: SuperMulti DVD±RW

Sound: Integrated

Network: 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet

(2) PCI Express x1 slots

(1) PCI Express x8 slot

(2) PCI Express x16 slot

(2) PCI

(3) 5.25" Drive Bay (1 occupied)

(3) 3.5" Drive Bay (1 occupied)

400W Max

Cost for that is $279. My math:

HD - $60

RAM - $30

MOBO - $50

Case - $50

Processor - $80

Optical Drive - $30

PSU - $30

So basically Im getting parts at cost in a built unit that as far as I can tell will take a Mojave install with no issue.

To this I plan to add the following:

2 x 500GB SSDs (one with Win 10 as a boot drive, one with OS X as a boot drive) - $120 ($60 each)

Sapphire Radeon RX 570 8GB - $119 (I thought about a 580 but given the processor most likely being the bottleneck on most things it seemed silly)

Total - $518 plus monitor (I have one). I figure worst case I have built a kick ass emulation station, best case I have a system that will tide me over until Apple makes a Mac I want to buy and/or I get better at building Hackintoshes

So I am asking for a sanity check:

  • Im trying to avoid as many build/kext issues as possible and I have read good things about the Z220 - Tracking or off base?

  • I went with the 570 because of the general ease of AMD GPU implementation - Tracking or off base?

  • Anything I am completely dorked up on?

Thanks in advance
