High Sierra - ROG Maximus XI Hero / 8700k + GTX 1080 + NVME boot drive

My last setup ended up dying with a socket issues on an Z370 Aorus board so I picked up this Maximus XI Hero from Best Buy yesterday and within a couple of hours I had a good base.

Things that are still broken:

  • On board WiFi / BT (probably will never work)
  • HDMI Audio
  • GPU Performance seems low in certain instances but has an overall higher score compared to geek bench base mark?
  • HDR Display support? Does apple even have this available?
  • On board Ethernet

Things that work fine:

  • NVME Storage (both of my Samsung 970 Evo M.2 drives are detected )
  • All USB ports so far (haven't verified USB 3 or 3.1 speeds) (Haven't tested Type-C port yet)
  • 4k Display resolution (system report shows 24bit color depth 60Hz refresh rate and x16 PCIe lane width)
  • XMP Detection (Ram speeds correctly identified as 3200Mhz)
  • Intel CPU Power Management
  • Graphics acceleration with latest Nvidia drivers and appropriate kexts
  • iMessage / iCloud without any weird work arounds or fixes
  • APC Battery Backup detected correctly

The weirdest thing is that my mechanical keyboard will start in Bios mode with this motherboard, I've tried flashing different firmware versions and different USB ports to it but it continues. This did not happen with any other board, hitting the windows lock and F1 keys at the same time takes it out of BIOS mode but it can be aggravating when trying to get into the BIOS settings and fast boot is enabled.
