Intel HD 630 + nVidia GTX 1050 High Sierra laptop, using both graphics card?

I've been tinkering with my High Sierra 10.3.6 build on my MSI GL72M 7RDX and trying to figure out some of the remaining bugs with my setup. Originally I had disabled the GTX 1050 and worked through getting sleep wake to work. It didn't truly sleep, but at least the monitor goes to sleep and wakes up. When it does wake from sleep I'd find that the it switched from the HD 630 to the GTX 1050(even though I didn't have any nvidia drivers). And before it went to sleep, the brightness settings wouldn't work for the 630, but when it switched it would work for the 1050.

So now I've created a new configuration that uses the 1050. I was able to get it to work on boot, be recognized in system report. I installed the Web Drivers and it tells me it's Metal capable. The issue is then that the brightness controls no longer work, even though it previously did when it did the card switch.

Now the question I have is what should I be expecting here? Do these 2 cards work in tandem well with macOS? Ideally I want to get sleep working correctly as my primary objective, with screen brightness secondary. I find most of the guidance online has to do with using pre-WhateverGreen setups, which really doesn't do me much good at this point since I have implemented WhateverGreen. Am I better off troubleshooting the issues with the 630 setup, or going forward with the 1050?
